Building Innate Resilience Through Hearts (BIRTH) Fiji program is a Community Strengthening Program to Prevent Violence – a powerful initiative that we have supported throughout its pilot phase over the past 12 months.
This community-led program is making a tangible difference by raising awareness and driving action to prevent domestic violence, particularly its impact on vulnerable groups such as women, children, people with disabilities, and the elderly.
Through targeted workshops and counselling sessions, the program addresses key issues including positive parenting, substance abuse, domestic violence, and mental health—empowering individuals and strengthening communities from within.
Key achievements for FY24-25
- 8 workshops were delivered in two selected communities with topics identified through a needs analysis conducted by BIRTH Fiji
- 55 people benefited directly from the training provided through the workshops
- An external evaluation confirmed that project participants reported increased awareness and knowledge of the topics covered.
“Before the workshops, awareness around environmental care, gender-based violence (GBV), and parenting was limited. We didn’t know much about how to manage our waste properly, and we never really talked about violence at home,” Arifa – Project participant.
Following a successful first year, we are now working closely with BIRTH Fiji to design a new three-year project cycle that will expand this important work and reach even more people.
Together, with your kind support, we are building safer, stronger, and more resilient communities across Fiji.
