Founded in Australia in 1866 the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart, endeavour to read the signs of the times in the light of the Christian Gospel. Empowered by absolute confidence in God’s divine love and providence, the founders, Saint Mary MacKillop and Fr Julian Tenison Woods chose to live out God’s mission by responding to the needs of their time wherever those needs were exposed. Today the Sisters of St Joseph are committed to the long-term sustainability of this mission and Mary MacKillop’s and Julian Tenison Woods’ legacy.
Various incorporated works have been established by the Sisters to carry forward this mission, including Mary MacKillop Today. This is done within the requirements of Church law, including the Code of Canon Law. These incorporated works strive for positive transformational relationships with Earth and her people through collaboration with others to create opportunities for generational change.
Like the Sisters, Mary MacKillop Today is to further its Objects by listening attentively to the unmet needs of our time and by confronting the more challenging and neglected aspects of people’s lives with creativity and fresh courage. Deep mutual respect and appreciation of the humanity of the other is evidenced in relationships that are inclusive, supportive, relieve suffering and bring hope to those made poor or marginalised.
Mary MacKillop Today is an integral expression of the Josephite mission today in the specific context of its own Objects.
