The Year to Come - Mary MacKillop Today

The Year to Come

What a year we had!

You all responded so enthusiastically to our Christmas appeal so thanks to you we will now be able to make sure Indigenous Australians who gain a place at a tertiary university are able to take full advantage of that opportunity.

Now that we are well into the New Year I’ve had a chance to reflect on the year that was, and set our sights firmly on what is shaping up to be a busy and significant 2016.

This year, I’m hoping you will have a greater sense of what it is we’re achieving together.

Fundraising is about relationships. We can’t do anything without the support of our donors, and we continue to be totally inspired by your determination to make a fairer community and to help out where you can.

In my time as CEO, I’ve observed that Australians are very generous if they understand the need. My job is to make sure that you know what those needs are and what difference your help makes.

This will be a big year for us.

We will be celebrating 150 years since Mary MacKillop founded the first Australian order – the Sisters of Saint Joseph. Whether you’re of the Catholic faith or not, there is no denying that Mary was an extraordinary woman.

This year I want to pay tribute to the work of the Sisters of Saint Joseph. They have made an enormous contribution to education, particularly for Australians who have been pushed to the margins of society by poverty and isolation.

But there’s still more work to do.

We are determined to end the disparity of access to tertiary education for Indigenous Australians.

By 2020 we want to have supported 200 graduates with a tertiary education. We are committed to ensuring we remain connected to Mary’s philosophy of seeing a need and doing something about it.

Through our supporters we are really proud to be able to continue changing lives, and we hope you’ll join us in working towards our ambitious mission.
