Darcy Godden joins the Mary MacKillop Today Board

We asked Darcy to share with us what motivated him to join the Board:

“As a proud Kamilaroi and Wonnarua man, I come to this work deeply grounded in culture, community, and responsibility. Much of my professional life has been shaped by a calling to strengthen the systems that serve our people, particularly those that impact children, families, and the organisations that support them. I believe in community control, in enabling self-determination, and in creating sustainable structures that not only deliver services but nurture connection, healing, and hope.

My journey to Mary MacKillop Today has been shaped by lived experience and by incredible mentors and role models, who have been the Sisters of Saint Joseph. The Sisters have walked beside me throughout my leadership journey, always offering guidance, encouragement, and wisdom at key points in my career. Their belief in equity, education, and human dignity has helped shape who I am today as a senior executive in the health and community sector.

What drew me to the work of Mary MacKillop Today is its enduring commitment to walking alongside communities, not to rescue or reform them, but to stand in solidarity and help build capability from the ground up.

In my role on the Board, I see myself as both a steward and an advocate. I bring a strong foundation in Aboriginal community governance, service design, and rural health system reform. I’m committed to ensuring that MMT not only continues to thrive but does so in a way that remains true to its purpose, creating lasting, generational impact in partnership with the communities we serve.”
